We celebrate uniqueness and whatever makes you, you and encourage everyone who wants to help us transform the way the world designs, to join us on this journey. We value all different types of experiences. If you don’t think you quite meet all of the qualifications, we’d still love to hear from you.

About Us

At Canva, our mission is to democratise design and empower creativity for anyone and everyone, on every platform. Inspired by a team of talented thinkers, an amazing culture and a remarkable growth trajectory – we’re out to change the world, one design at a time.

Since launch in August 2013, we have grown exponentially, amassing over 60 million monthly active users across 190 different countries who have created more than 6 Billion designs. We are one of the world’s fastest-growing technology companies and we have only achieved about 1% of what we want to do.

About the role

Canva is looking for an experienced employment lawyer to be part of our highly motivated, tightly knit, and collaborative global legal team. Reporting to the Global Employment Counsel (based in Australia), this role will be the first employment law specialist to provide regional support to both our employee and contingent workforce across Asia.

If you’re someone who has the ability to deal with issues outside your experience and can learn quickly in a fast-paced and often unstructured environment, this is your opportunity!

Preferably based in Singapore, but we also have offices in Manila, Beijing and Wuhan so would be open to the role being from those locations.

What you’ll do:

  • Work closely with the Global Employment Counsel Team to ensure a consistent and collaborative approach to delivering employment law services to the region
  • Advise on day-to-day employment related matters throughout the region across Canva’s employee and contingent workforce
  • Draft and negotiate employment-related agreements, including severance agreements
  • Develop and maintain internal resources / templates for the regional team, including creation of playbooks
  • Coordinate with corporate counsel, privacy counsel, external counsel, and others, as appropriate
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of workplace policies, processes, guidance and templates (subject to local law and practice)
  • Support Canva-wide learning initiatives, including delivering training on employment-related topics, taking account of changes to the law, best practice and Canva policies and culture
  • Work closely and collaboratively with key stakeholders including the People Team (aka HR), Total Rewards, Tax, Finance, Operations, and other parts of the Canva Group as required

What we’re looking for…

  • You have 5+ years experience in employment law gained within a respected law firm or in house at a multinational company
  • You’ll be fluent in English (verbally and in writing)
  • You have a strong technical background and hands on experience partnering with or advising HR teams and other key stakeholders at international organizations on a broad range of employment matters
  • You have a sound understanding of all aspects of employment law in Asia and an ability to apply that knowledge pragmatically in a commercial environment
  • You’re a skilled communicator and with a proven record of being able to quickly build effective and trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation
  • You have confidence and experience translating complex legal concepts into practical solutions to guide HR professionals and business people
  • You are risk aware, not risk averse
  • We’d also love it if you have:
  • Experience advising on employment matters across the Philippines, India, Japan and/or China (although candidates without direct experience in these countries are encouraged to apply so long as you have some international experience)
  • Hands on in-house experience at a rapidly growing international technology company

What you’ll love at Canva…

  • Competitive salary, plus equity options
  • Flexible working hours; we value work-life balance
  • Sponsored social clubs and team events, fun and quirky celebrations
  • Professional education allowance and other benefits
